Canada: Visitor visa: refusal reasons and the fix

Canada Visitor visa, government fee CAD 100 per person; verified against canada.ca. The route page carries the eligibility test, fees, timeline and document checklist these reasons refer to.

Purpose of visit not credible

The officer was not satisfied the visit was for tourism or a family event: thin itinerary, no invitation, or an invitation that did not match the travel dates.

The fix. Rebuild the file around one clear purpose with dated evidence (wedding card, conference registration, hotel bookings that match the flight dates) and a host letter that states who pays.

Insufficient funds or unexplained deposits

Statements showed a balance that appeared in the last few weeks, or the trip cost exceeded what the salary could plausibly support.

The fix. Show four to six months of statements with the source of every large credit (property sale deed, maturity of a deposit, gift letter from a parent with their statements).

Weak ties to India

No employer letter, a short job history, no property or dependants, or a long gap in employment.

The fix. Add approved-leave letter, ITRs, property or FD proof and a short, factual explanation of what you return to; students add an enrolment letter and the academic calendar.

Travel history and previous refusals

Limited international travel, or a prior US, UK or Canadian refusal that was not declared or not explained.

The fix. Declare every refusal in the form, attach the refusal letters and a one-page explanation of what has changed since.

Misrepresentation

A document that could not be verified, an undeclared refusal or an employer who did not confirm the letter. A finding under section 40 carries a five-year ban.

The fix. Never submit a document you cannot stand behind; if an agent prepared an earlier file, obtain the GCMS notes before reapplying so the new file addresses what was recorded.

United Kingdom: Standard Visitor visa: refusal reasons and the fix

United Kingdom Standard Visitor visa, government fee £135 per person; verified against gov.uk. The route page carries the eligibility test, fees, timeline and document checklist these reasons refer to.

Not a genuine visitor (paragraph V 4.2)

The officer was not satisfied you would leave the UK at the end of the visit: thin itinerary, unclear purpose, or a history that suggested you intend to live in the UK through repeated visits.

The fix. Rebuild the file around one dated purpose with bookings or an invitation, and set out why you return: approved leave, business, property, dependants. Keep visits well under six months and spaced apart.

Funds and unexplained deposits

Bank statements showed recent lump sums without a source, or the trip cost exceeded what your declared income supports.

The fix. Show six months of statements with the source of every large credit (property sale deed, maturity statement, gift letter with the giver's statements) and keep the trip cost proportionate to income.

Employment or income not verified

UKVI could not confirm the employer letter or the salary did not match the statements, so the ties and funds evidence fell away.

The fix. Use a letter on letterhead with a working phone number and email, and make sure the salary on the letter matches the credits in the statements and the ITR.

Undeclared refusal or deception (paragraph 9.8)

A previous refusal by the UK or another country was not declared, or a document could not be verified. A deception finding brings a ban of up to ten years.

The fix. Declare every refusal and attach the letters; never submit a document you cannot stand behind. If an agent prepared an earlier application, obtain a subject access request before reapplying.

Immigration history

Previous overstaying, working as a visitor, or a long stay in the UK on a visitor visa in the last year.

The fix. Explain the history in a short letter with evidence, allow time to pass since the last visit, and show the new trip is short and purposeful.

Australia: Visitor visa: refusal reasons and the fix

Australia Visitor visa, government fee AUD 250 per person; verified against immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. The route page carries the eligibility test, fees, timeline and document checklist these reasons refer to.

Genuine temporary entrant not satisfied

The officer was not satisfied you would leave Australia: limited ties, an open-ended visit, or family in Australia combined with little to return to.

The fix. Rebuild the file around a dated purpose and the ties: approved leave, business evidence, property, dependants; keep the requested stay realistic and the itinerary specific.

Insufficient or unexplained funds

Statements showed recent lump sums or a balance that could not support the trip at the stated cost.

The fix. Show six months of statements with the source of every large credit and match the trip cost to your income and savings.

Inconsistent or unverifiable documents

An employer letter that could not be verified, mismatched dates between the itinerary and the form, or a document found to be altered, which triggers public interest criterion 4020 and a three-year bar.

The fix. Submit only genuine documents with working contact details for the issuer, check every date across the file, and declare anything that might look inconsistent.

Immigration history

Previous overstaying, cancellation or refusal in Australia or another country not declared on the form.

The fix. Declare all refusals and visa cancellations with the letters and a short factual explanation of what has changed.

Health requirement

A health examination was referred and not completed within the deadline, or a condition was assessed as likely to cost the Australian health system significantly.

The fix. Book the panel physician promptly after a referral; for long visits plan the health examination before lodging.

United States: B-1/B-2 visitor visa: refusal reasons and the fix

United States B-1/B-2 visitor visa, government fee USD 185 per person; verified against travel.state.gov. The route page carries the eligibility test, fees, timeline and document checklist these reasons refer to.

214(b): failed to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent

The officer was not convinced you have strong ties to India and a temporary purpose: weak employment, family already in the US, or answers that did not match the DS-160.

The fix. Reapply only when something has changed: a new job, property, a clearer purpose. Pay the fee again, answer concisely and consistently, and bring evidence of the change even if it is not asked for.

221(g): administrative processing or missing documents

The case was held for further review or a document was requested; the passport may be kept or returned.

The fix. Submit exactly what the letter asks for through the portal or VAC; processing can take weeks to months and the fee stays valid.

Inconsistent DS-160 or undeclared refusals

Travel history, employment or earlier refusals on the form did not match the interview or the record. Material misrepresentation leads to a permanent bar under 212(a)(6)(C)(i).

The fix. Check the DS-160 line by line before the interview, declare every refusal by any country, and do not let an agent invent employment or travel.

Previous overstay or unlawful presence

An earlier visit exceeded the I-94 date or the applicant worked without authorisation.

The fix. Establish the exact dates from I-94 records; after a 3- or 10-year bar expires, apply with a full explanation and evidence of compliance since.

Purpose outside the visa

The stated plan amounted to work, study or living in the US (for example a parent intending to provide childcare for a year).

The fix. Describe a genuine, time-limited visit and apply for the correct visa if the real purpose is work or study.

Germany: Schengen visitor visa: refusal reasons and the fix

Germany Schengen visitor visa, government fee €90 per person; verified against auswaertiges-amt.de. The route page carries the eligibility test, fees, timeline and document checklist these reasons refer to.

The fix. Submit a day-by-day itinerary that matches confirmed bookings and a cover letter; hosts should use the formal obligation letter from their local foreigners' office.
