UAE tourist visa for Indian passport holders

Indian passport holders need a pre-arranged tourist visa for the UAE unless they hold a valid US visa, US green card, or UK or EU residence permit, which allows a visa on arrival. The 30-day single-entry visa costs AED 200 plus 5% VAT (AED 210), the 60-day visa AED 315, and GDRFA Dubai and ICP issue most applications within 48 hours to four working days through an airline, hotel or licensed travel agency.

United Arab Emirates tourist visa: quick answers

Who needs a UAE tourist visa?
Every Indian passport holder visiting the UAE for tourism or to see family, unless you qualify for a visa on arrival by holding a valid US visitor visa or green card, or a UK or EU residence permit valid for at least six months, which gives 14 days on arrival, extendable once. Everyone else applies in advance through a UAE-based sponsor: an airline, a hotel, a licensed travel agency or a resident relative.
What does it cost?
AED 200 plus 5% VAT, so AED 210, for the 30-day single-entry visa, and AED 300 plus VAT (AED 315) for 60 days. Multiple-entry versions cost more, and applying from inside the UAE adds AED 500 plus the AED 10 knowledge and AED 10 innovation dirhams. Airlines and agencies add their own service fee and may require a refundable deposit.
How long does it take from India?
GDRFA Dubai lists 48 hours for visa issuance and most files are approved within two to four working days once the sponsor has lodged them; express 24-hour processing is available at extra cost. Apply two to three weeks before travel to allow for document queries and the airline's own cut-offs.

Who qualifies for a UAE tourist visa

The UAE has no individual tourist-visa application for Indian nationals: a sponsor inside the UAE lodges the file on the GDRFA Dubai or federal ICP system. In practice that sponsor is the airline you fly with (Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia all run visa desks), the hotel you have booked, a licensed UAE travel agency, or a resident relative who meets the salary rule. The sponsor is responsible for your departure, which is why agencies ask for a refundable security deposit.

Approval turns on a passport valid for six months, a clear immigration record in the UAE, confirmed accommodation and a return or onward ticket. Since 2024 GDRFA has asked airlines to check that visitors hold a hotel booking or a host's address, a return ticket and proof of funds of about AED 3,000 or a credit card, so carry bank statements and the booking printouts to the airport.

Indians with a valid US visitor visa or green card, or a UK or EU residence permit valid for at least six months, can take a 14-day visa on arrival (extendable once for 14 days) and do not need the pre-arranged visa. Transit passengers can take a free 48-hour or AED 50 96-hour transit visa through their airline.

How the application runs, step by step

  1. 1

    Choose the sponsor channel

Airline, hotel or licensed agency; Vistolane's UAE partner sponsors the file for travellers without a resident relative.

  2. 2

    Submit documents

Passport scan (six months' validity), a photo on a white background, confirmed return ticket and accommodation; some sponsors ask for a PAN card copy and recent statements.

  3. 3

    Sponsor lodges the file

On GDRFA Dubai or ICP smart services; the fee and the sponsor's charge are paid at this point.

  4. 4

    Approval

The e-visa arrives by e-mail within 48 hours to four working days; print it and carry the sponsor's details.

  5. 5

    Travel

Enter within 60 days of issue; immigration may ask for the hotel booking, return ticket and funds at the airport.

Apply two to three weeks before travel; the Dubai Shopping Festival (December to January) and school holidays bring longer queues at airline visa desks.

At the border and during the stay

The stay runs from the entry date for 30 or 60 days; a single in-country extension is possible through GDRFA before expiry. Overstaying is fined AED 50 a day from the first day. Tourist visas do not allow work; a tourist who receives a job offer can switch to an employment entry permit inside the country for the AED 500 inside-country fee.

Visitors who travel often should consider the five-year multiple-entry tourist visa, which allows 90 days per visit (extendable to 180) and needs a USD 4,000 bank balance over the previous six months. Families joining a resident should use the family visit visa sponsored by the relative instead.

Why applications on this route get refused, and the fix

Previous UAE immigration record

An overstay, absconding report or unpaid fine from a previous visit, or a cancelled residence visa not closed properly.

The fix. Clear fines through GDRFA or ICP and submit the cancellation papers before reapplying.

Passport or document issues

Handwritten passport, less than six months' validity, blurred scans or a photo that fails the biometric check.

The fix. Renew the passport and resubmit clear scans with a compliant photo.

Sponsor or booking problems

The agency's quota was exhausted, the hotel booking could not be verified, or the sponsor's file was incomplete.

The fix. Use a licensed sponsor with confirmed bookings in your name; Vistolane's partner verifies the file before lodging.

Profile and security checks

A name match on a watch list, or an unmarried woman under a certain age travelling alone, which some channels flag for extra review.

The fix. Provide additional ID (Aadhaar or PAN), employment proof and the host's details; most matches clear on resubmission.

Entry refused at the airport

No return ticket, no accommodation proof or no funds at the airline counter or immigration.

The fix. Carry the printouts and statements listed in the checklist; airlines deny boarding when they are missing.
