Do Indian passport holders need a USA visa?
Yes. Indian citizens need a US B1/B2 visitor visa before travelling to the United States for tourism, to visit family or friends, or for short business meetings. United States requires an embassy or consulate process. After the online form and fee, you book an interview (with fingerprints and a photo taken on the day); the officer decides at or shortly after the interview and the passport is returned with the visa a few days later.
The application is made online: DS-160 form, MRV fee payment, then two appointments in India, biometrics at the Visa Application Centre and an interview at the US Embassy or a consulate. Interviews take place at the US Embassy in New Delhi and the consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata; biometrics are given at the Visa Application Centre a day or more before. Interview wait times in India are published by the State Department and can run to months, so the appointment is the first thing Vistolane books.
USA visa requirements from India: document checklist
Every USA visa application from India needs the core set below; the second list is what USA officers look at most closely. Vistolane checks each document against the USA checklist before anything is submitted.
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond your return date, with two blank pages
- Two recent photographs to the destination's specification
- Completed application form (we fill it with you and check every field)
- Return flight reservation and accommodation for the whole stay
- Bank statements for the last three to six months showing regular income
- Employment letter with approved leave, or business registration if self-employed
- Income-tax returns for the last two to three years
- Travel insurance covering the whole stay (mandatory for Schengen, recommended elsewhere)
Specific to the US B1/B2 visitor visa:
- DS-160 confirmation page and the appointment confirmation
- MRV fee receipt
- Evidence of ties to India: employment letter, property papers, family responsibilities
- Bank statements, salary slips and income-tax returns, carried to the interview and shown only if asked
- Invitation letter and the host's status (I-797, green card or visa copy) if visiting relatives
- Travel itinerary and, for B1 business visits, the inviting company's letter

USA visa processing time
travel.state.gov publishes a processing time of 3–10 working days after interview for the US B1/B2 visitor visa. Vistolane quotes 3–12 working days after interview including its own safety buffer and guarantees the date the file is lodged. Appointment availability adds to this in peak season, so the appointment is the first thing we book.
Validity: B1/B2 visas for Indian nationals are normally valid for ten years with multiple entries; the length of each stay is decided by the officer at the port of entry, usually up to six months.

Why USA visas get refused, and how we prevent it
Most USA refusals for Indian applicants trace back to the file, not the applicant. The patterns below come from refusal letters handled on the platform.
- Answers at the interview that contradict the DS-160
- Weak ties to India for a young or recently employed applicant
- Memorised or over-rehearsed answers
- Travel plans that do not match the stated purpose or budget
A refusal is not a ban. Vistolane reads the refusal letter, fixes the stated reason and re-files with a short cover note, usually within the same week.
