A UAE tourist visa for an Indian passport holder costs AED 210 for 30 days (AED 200 plus 5% VAT) or AED 315 for 60 days, is lodged by a sponsor inside the UAE rather than by the traveller, and is approved within 48 hours to four working days by GDRFA Dubai or the federal ICP. Indians who hold a valid US visitor visa or green card, or a UK or EU residence permit valid for six months, skip the process and take a 14-day visa on arrival. Since 2024 airlines check hotel bookings, return tickets and funds of about AED 3,000 at the departure counter, so the file matters at the airport as much as at the visa stage.
The short version with the price card and checklist is on the UAE tourist visa route page. This article is the long version with the reasoning behind each document and each channel.
Who needs a UAE tourist visa in 2026?
Every Indian ordinary passport holder visiting the UAE for tourism or to see family, for a stay of 30 or 60 days, unless the visa-on-arrival rule applies. The visa on arrival is a 14-day stay granted to Indians who hold a valid US visitor visa or green card, or a residence permit from the UK or an EU member state with at least six months' validity; it can be extended once for 14 days through GDRFA. Everyone else applies in advance through a UAE-based sponsor. Transit passengers can take a free 48-hour transit visa or a 96-hour transit visa for AED 50 through their airline.
The tourist visa allows sightseeing, visiting relatives, attending exhibitions and shopping festivals; it does not allow work, including freelance or remote work for a foreign employer in most readings of the rules, and a tourist who receives a job offer switches to an employment entry permit inside the country for the AED 500 inside-country fee. The 90-day multiple-entry and five-year multiple-entry tourist visas suit frequent visitors and are described below.
Who sponsors the visa, and what does the sponsor check?
The UAE has no individual tourist-visa application for Indian nationals. A sponsor inside the UAE lodges the file on the GDRFA Dubai smart services portal (for Dubai) or the ICP portal (for the other emirates): the airline you fly with, the hotel you have booked, a licensed UAE travel agency, or a resident relative who meets the family-visit salary rule. The sponsor is responsible for your departure, which is why agencies ask for a refundable security deposit of AED 1,000 to 3,000 and why hotels sponsor only for the nights booked.
Airlines are the simplest channel for most Indian travellers: Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia run visa desks that lodge the application when you hold a ticket on their service, usually within two working days, and the fee appears on the airline's site with the service charge. Licensed agencies in India working with a UAE partner, including Vistolane's partner, lodge for travellers who want flexibility on airline or accommodation. The sponsor checks the passport validity (six months), the photo, the return ticket and the accommodation before lodging because an incomplete file is refused without a refund.

| Tourist visa, 30 days single entry | 210 | AED 200 + 5% VAT; GDRFA Dubai |

Fees are charged in dirhams and are not refunded on refusal. Vistolane charges the government fee at the official rupee rate and shows the sponsor's service separately on the UAE destination page.
What documents go in the file?
Identity. A passport valid at least six months from arrival with two blank pages; Indian passports with handwritten details are not accepted. A colour scan of the data page and a recent photo on a white background. Most sponsors ask Indian applicants for a PAN card copy, which GDRFA uses as a secondary identifier.
Trip. A confirmed return or onward ticket on the same passport, and either a hotel booking covering the stay or the host's address with a copy of the host's Emirates ID and residence visa. Travel insurance is recommended and some sponsors require it.
Funds and ties. Bank statements for three to six months; since 2024 airlines are asked to confirm that visitors can show about AED 3,000 in funds or a credit card, together with the booking and return ticket. An employer's leave letter or GST registration is requested only when the sponsor or GDRFA asks. The travel document checklist helps you tick the items off before you book.
How does the application run?
- Choose the sponsor channel: airline, hotel, licensed agency or resident relative. Vistolane's UAE partner sponsors files for travellers without a resident host.
- Send the documents: passport scan, photo, ticket, accommodation, PAN card and statements where asked.
- The sponsor lodges the file on GDRFA Dubai or ICP and pays the AED 210 or AED 315 fee plus its service charge.
- Approval arrives by e-mail within 48 hours to four working days (24 hours express); print the e-visa and carry the sponsor's details.
- Travel within 60 days of issue. At the Indian airport the airline checks the visa, ticket, hotel and funds; at UAE immigration the visa is validated and the 30- or 60-day stay starts from the entry date.
How long does it take from India?
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Documents and bookings | 1 to 3 days |
| Lodging by the sponsor | Same day |
| GDRFA or ICP decision | 48 hours to 4 working days; 24 hours express |
| Validity window | 60 days from issue |
Apply two to three weeks before travel; the Dubai Shopping Festival in December and January, Eid and the Indian school holidays bring longer queues at airline desks. A visa issued too early lapses if you do not enter within 60 days, so time the application to the trip.
What happens at the airport and during the stay?
Indian airports apply the UAE's pre-boarding checks: the airline can deny boarding if you cannot show the hotel booking or host address, the return ticket and funds, and the first-time traveller without these is the most common case turned back. UAE immigration records the entry and the stay runs for 30 or 60 days from that date; a single extension is available through GDRFA or an Amer centre before expiry without leaving the country. Overstaying costs AED 50 a day and blocks future visas until paid.
Frequent visitors should look at the multiple-entry options. The 30-day and 60-day multiple-entry visas allow repeat trips within the period; the five-year multiple-entry tourist visa allows 90 days per visit (extendable to 180) and needs a bank balance of USD 4,000 over the previous six months plus health insurance. Families joining a relative use the family visit visa sponsored by the resident, which follows the same fee logic.
Why are UAE tourist visas refused, and what fixes each reason?
Previous UAE immigration record. An overstay, an absconding report filed by a former employer, or an unpaid fine from a past visit; cancelled residence visas not closed properly appear here too. Clear the fines through GDRFA or ICP, obtain the cancellation papers and declare the history when reapplying.
Passport or document issues. A handwritten passport, less than six months' validity, blurred scans or a photo that fails the biometric check. Renew the passport and resubmit clear scans and a compliant photo; sponsors resubmit without a new fee in many cases.
Sponsor or booking problems. The agency's quota was exhausted, the hotel booking could not be verified, or the file lacked the PAN card or statements. Use a licensed sponsor with confirmed bookings in your own name.
Profile and security checks. A name match with a watch-list entry, or a profile a channel flags for extra review, such as an unmarried woman under a certain age travelling alone through some agencies. Provide additional identification (Aadhaar or PAN), employment proof and the host's details; most flags clear on resubmission.
Refused boarding or entry. No return ticket, no accommodation proof or no funds at the airline counter or UAE immigration. Carry printouts of everything in the checklist; the visa does not guarantee boarding.
