A Singapore visa for an Indian passport holder costs SGD 30, is lodged by an ICA authorised visa agent in India or a local contact in Singapore rather than by the traveller, and is processed within three working days excluding the day of submission. It is issued as an e-Visa, ICA frequently grants multiple-journey validity of up to two years to Indian travellers with good history, and the stay itself, usually 30 days, is decided by the immigration officer at the checkpoint. Indians who hold a valid visa or long-term pass from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand or Japan can instead transit visa-free for 96 hours on an onward journey.

The short version with the price card and checklist is on the Singapore visitor e-Visa route page. This article is the long version, with the reasoning behind each channel and each document.

Who needs a Singapore visa in 2026?

Every Indian ordinary passport holder, for tourism, visiting family and friends, and business meetings; holders of diplomatic and official passports are exempt. Singapore has placed India on its Assessment Level I list, which means a visa is required but is issued routinely on a complete file, and the SGD 30 fee has not changed in years. Stays are short: the Short-Term Visit Pass granted on arrival is usually 30 days, and a visa is permission to seek entry rather than a guarantee of it.

The exception is the Visa-Free Transit Facility. An Indian traveller holding a valid visa or long-term pass from Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK or the US, travelling to or from that country on a confirmed onward ticket within 96 hours, can enter Singapore without a visa at the officer's discretion. The visa must be valid for at least a month and single-entry visas qualify only on the way to the issuing country. Travellers who stay airside at Changi need nothing at all.

Who lodges the application, and what does the sponsor check?

Singapore takes no direct applications from Indian nationals. The file is lodged either by an authorised visa agent appointed by the Singapore High Commission in New Delhi or the consulates in Mumbai and Chennai, or by a local contact in Singapore: a citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or over, or a Singapore-registered company, who logs into the ICA e-Service with Singpass or Corppass and signs a Letter of Introduction (Form V39A) taking responsibility for the visitor. There is no VFS centre and no embassy counter for Indian tourists.

Authorised agents are the simplest channel for most travellers. They check the passport (six months' validity), Form 14A, the photo against ICA's guidelines and the supporting documents before lodging, because ICA does not refund the SGD 30 on refusal and gives no reasons. Vistolane's partner in India is an authorised agent and lodges within a working day of receiving a complete file. A local contact's Letter of Introduction strengthens a first-time traveller's application and is the normal route for family visits.

The fee is the same for single and multiple-journey visas, so the validity ICA grants is a free upgrade earned by travel history and a clean file. Vistolane charges the SGD 30 fee at the official rupee rate and shows the agent's service separately on the Singapore destination page.

What documents go in the file?

Identity. A passport valid for at least six months with blank pages, and a colour copy of the bio page. Form 14A completed and signed by the applicant: the information in the form is the legal basis of the visa, so the trip purpose, addresses and employment must match the supporting documents. A photo taken within three months against a white background that meets ICA's photo guidelines; agents reject about one photo in five, usually for shadows or glasses.

Trip. A return or onward ticket on the same passport and either a hotel booking or the host's details with the Letter of Introduction. A business visit adds the Singapore company's invitation naming the applicant and the dates.

Funds and ties. Bank statements for three to six months showing regular income; ICA publishes no figure, but agents look for a balance that comfortably covers the trip without a recent unexplained lump sum. An employer's leave letter or business registration, and copies of previous visas for Singapore, Schengen, the UK, the US or Japan, help ICA grant a multiple-journey visa. The travel document checklist helps you tick everything off before lodging.

How does the application run?

  1. Prepare Form 14A, the photo, the passport copy and the supporting documents; Vistolane's partner reviews them against ICA's rules before lodging.
  2. The authorised agent or local contact submits on the ICA e-Service and pays SGD 30 by card; local contacts attach the Letter of Introduction.
  3. ICA processes the application within three working days; the agent or local contact downloads the e-Visa and e-mails it to you.
  4. Submit the free SG Arrival Card online within three days before travel; it includes the health declaration.
  5. At Changi the officer checks the e-Visa, return ticket and accommodation and grants the Short-Term Visit Pass, usually 30 days, recorded electronically.

How long does it take from India?

StageTypical time
Documents and bookings1 to 3 days
Lodging by the agent or local contactSame day
ICA decision3 working days; some cases longer
ValiditySet by ICA; stay granted at entry

ICA advises applying within 30 days before arrival. For December holidays, the May school break and the Formula 1 weekend in September, lodge at least a week ahead because agents' queues lengthen. A multiple-journey visa lets frequent travellers skip the process for up to two years.

What happens at the checkpoint and during the stay?

The immigration officer grants the Short-Term Visit Pass for the period they judge appropriate, normally 30 days, and the visa does not guarantee entry; travellers without a return ticket, accommodation or consistent answers are refused at the checkpoint and returned on the next flight. The stay can be extended once online through ICA for up to 89 days in total where there is a good reason such as medical treatment or a relative's illness.

Overstaying is a criminal offence in Singapore with fines and, beyond 90 days, caning for men, so leave on time or extend before expiry. Visitors cannot work, including remote work for an Indian employer, study on a course longer than 30 days or seek employment without the right pass; business meetings, conferences and exhibitions are allowed. A visitor who is offered a job cannot convert on the spot: the employer applies for an Employment Pass or S Pass and the visitor re-enters on the In-Principle Approval.

Why are Singapore visas refused, and what fixes each reason?

Insufficient supporting documents. Missing statements, no bookings or a photo that failed ICA's checks, often because an agent lodged an incomplete file. Submit a complete set through a reputable authorised agent; Vistolane's partner checks every item before lodging.

Travel history or profile. First-time travellers with little history, irregular income or recent large deposits. Show regular income over six months, a clear itinerary and ties in India; a local contact's Letter of Introduction strengthens the file.

Previous immigration record. An overstay, a refusal of entry or an outstanding fine in Singapore. Settle fines through ICA, disclose the history and reapply with a short, specific trip.

Local contact issues. The local contact was under 21, not a citizen or PR, or did not sign the Letter of Introduction. Use an eligible local contact or an authorised agent instead.

Entry refused at the checkpoint. No return ticket, no accommodation proof or answers that did not match Form 14A. Carry printouts of the ticket, booking and e-Visa and answer consistently.

How Vistolane files it
