A UAE employment visa for an Indian worker in 2026 is a two-year residence tied to the employer. The company obtains a MOHRE work permit after a quota check (AED 50 application plus AED 250, 1,200 or 3,450 for two years depending on its category), lodges an AED 210 entry permit on GDRFA Dubai or ICP, and after you land arranges the medical fitness test (about AED 320), the two-year Emirates ID (about AED 370) and the AED 240 residence permit. Every one of those fees is paid by the employer under Article 6 of the 2021 labour law, and the whole sequence takes two to four weeks. Workers on AED 15,000 with a degree can later self-sponsor a five-year Green visa, and those on AED 30,000 with a degree in a level 1 or 2 role qualify for the 10-year Golden Visa.

The compact version with the price card and checklist is on the UAE employment visa route page. This article explains the tiers, the fees and the rules on changing jobs.

Which UAE work visa tier fits an Indian worker?

TierWhoValiditySponsor
Standard employment visaAny worker with a MOHRE or free-zone work permit2 years (3 in some free zones)Employer
Green visa (skilled employee)Bachelor's degree, skill level 1 to 3, salary of AED 15,000 or more5 yearsSelf-sponsored
Green visa (freelancer)MOHRE freelance permit, bachelor's, income of AED 360,000 over two years5 yearsSelf-sponsored
Golden Visa (skilled professional)Bachelor's, MOHRE level 1 or 2, salary of AED 30,000 or more, valid contract10 yearsNone

The standard visa is the entry point for most Indian workers, from engineers and accountants to drivers and retail staff. Mainland employers apply through MOHRE and must satisfy the quota and the Nafis Emiratisation targets; free-zone employers (JAFZA, DMCC, DIFC, ADGM and dozens of others) issue permits through the free zone authority, which also sets its own fees and often three-year validity. Domestic workers follow a separate route with a lower permit fee.

MOHRE classifies jobs into skill levels. Levels 1 and 2 (managers, professionals, technicians) require a degree attested in India through the Ministry of External Affairs and the UAE Embassy and then by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs; levels 3 to 5 need a diploma or secondary certificate. Regulated professions need the emirate's licence: DHA or DOH for doctors and nurses, KHDA or ADEK for teachers, and the Society of Engineers for engineers in some roles.

What does the employer pay, and what is the worker's share?

MOHRE's category system rewards compliant, diverse employers: category 1 companies pay AED 250 for a two-year permit while category 3 companies pay AED 3,450, which is why large employers process visas faster and cheaper. The worker pays nothing by law; recruitment agencies in India may charge only for their own services and never for the visa. Vistolane shows the AED 210 entry permit on the price card at the official rate for transparency, and employers using Vistolane for business pay the bundle through the workspace.

How does the application run?

  1. Offer letter and attestation: sign the MOHRE standard offer letter (bilingual) and attest your degree in India for a skill level 1 or 2 role.
  2. MOHRE work permit: the employer applies with the offer letter, your passport and photo; approval in two to five working days after the quota check.
  3. Entry permit: the employer lodges on GDRFA or ICP (48 hours). Enter within 60 days; the permit allows a 60-day stay to complete formalities.
  4. Medical and Emirates ID: blood test and chest X-ray at an approved centre, biometrics at an ICP centre; results in one to three days.
  5. Contract and residence permit: the employer uploads the signed MOHRE contract within 14 days of entry, the residence permit is issued electronically for two years and the Emirates ID card is delivered within a week.

How long does it take from India?

StageTypical time
Degree attestation in India2 to 4 weeks; start before the offer
MOHRE work permit2 to 5 working days
Entry permit48 hours
Medical, Emirates ID, residence permit5 to 10 days after arrival
Emirates ID card deliveryUp to 1 week

Plan three to six weeks from signed offer to first day with an attested degree and six to eight weeks otherwise. There is no cap, lottery or labour-market test beyond the quota, which makes the UAE one of the fastest work routes open to Indian applicants, compared with the months-long sequences in the US H-1B visa guide or the Germany work visa guide.

Changing jobs, family and long-term options

Since the 2022 labour law all contracts are limited-term and renewable, resignation needs 30 to 90 days' notice, and the new employer files a transfer permit so the residence is re-issued without leaving the country. After a cancellation, skill level 1 and 2 workers have 180 days to find a new sponsor, level 3 workers 90 days and others 60 days. Non-compete clauses are enforceable only within limits set by MOHRE.

Workers on AED 4,000 (or AED 3,000 plus accommodation) sponsor a spouse and children; the UAE family visa guide covers the file. Workers on AED 15,000 with a degree can move to the five-year Green visa, and those on AED 30,000 with a degree in a level 1 or 2 role to the 10-year Golden Visa described in the UAE Golden Visa guide; both are self-sponsored and survive a job change. The UAE has no citizenship pathway for most expatriates, and Indian workers should check their Indian tax residency each year because UAE income is untaxed locally.

Why are UAE employment visas refused, and what fixes each reason?

MOHRE quota or Emiratisation. The employer's quota is exhausted or the company has not met Nafis targets. The employer requests a quota increase or hires through a free zone; Vistolane's partner checks quota before the offer is signed.

Qualification not attested. A degree without MEA and UAE Embassy attestation for a level 1 or 2 role. Complete attestation in India before the permit, or accept a level 3 classification temporarily and upgrade later.

Medical fitness failure. Tuberculosis, HIV or hepatitis found at the arrival test. Treatable TB receives a conditional visa; other results end the application and the employer repatriates at its cost.

Previous record or ban. Unpaid fines, an absconding report or a labour ban from a previous employer. Clear fines and bans through MOHRE and GDRFA before the new permit; bans lift after the cooling period.

Employer compliance. The company has blocked MOHRE files, unpaid WPS salaries or an expired licence. Choose an employer with a clean record; the partner verifies company status before filing.

How Vistolane handles it

Work routes on Vistolane go to a licence-checked PRO partner who runs the MOHRE permit, entry permit and arrival formalities for the employer, with government fees shown at the official rate. Employers start from Vistolane for business; workers start with the free eligibility check or the UAE employment visa route page. Workers comparing Asian hubs can read the Singapore Employment Pass guide.
