Indian residents of Qatar bring relatives on a family visit visa: QAR 200 for the first month, extendable monthly to a maximum of 6 months at QAR 200 each, applied for by the sponsor on the Metrash2 app or at a Ministry of Interior service centre and approved in 1 to 5 days. The sponsor must hold a valid QID, work in an eligible profession and earn about QAR 5,000 a month; the visitor may be a spouse, child, parent, parent-in-law or sibling, and anyone staying beyond the first month takes the Medical Commission test and holds Qatari health insurance. Indian passport holders can alternatively enter visa-free for 30 days, extendable by 30.

The short version with the price card and checklist is on the Qatar family visit visa route page. This article is the long version: who can sponsor and whom, how the visa compares with the visa-free entry, fees and extensions, documents, the medical, the timeline and the reasons requests are refused. The sponsor's own status comes from the Qatar work visa guide.

Who qualifies for a Qatar family visit visa?

A resident holding a valid Qatar ID, employed in a profession the Ministry of Interior classifies as eligible to sponsor visitors (engineers, accountants, teachers, nurses, doctors, managers, supervisors, technicians and most office roles qualify; labourers, drivers, cleaners and domestic workers generally do not) and earning about QAR 5,000 a month on the Wage Protection System record. The sponsor may invite their spouse, children of any age, parents, parents-in-law and siblings; grandparents and more distant relatives are approved case by case.

The visitor needs a passport valid 6 months and the relationship is proved with the marriage or birth certificate, attested by the MEA and the Qatar Embassy for first-time applications, though Metrash2 often accepts the Indian certificate with an English translation for parents and siblings. Visitors may not work or study; a spouse or child whose sponsor meets the QAR 10,000 salary test can convert inside Qatar to the family residence visa described in the Qatar family residence visa guide.

What documents does the sponsor need?

Sponsor. Qatar ID, passport copy, the employment contract or a salary certificate from the employer showing profession and salary, the last 3 months of bank statements showing Wage Protection System credits, the tenancy contract or accommodation letter, and the Metrash2 account.

Visitor. Passport copy valid 6 months, a passport photo on a white background, the marriage certificate (spouse), birth certificate (children and parents), or both the spouse's birth certificate and the marriage certificate (parents-in-law), attested or translated as the MOI centre requires, and the return flight booking.

For extensions. The Medical Commission result and the Qatari health insurance policy, uploaded on Metrash2 before each monthly renewal.

How does the application run?

  1. The sponsor checks eligibility on Metrash2 (profession and salary) and gathers the relationship certificate and the visitor's passport copy.
  2. The sponsor submits the family visit visa application on Metrash2 or at an MOI service centre and pays QAR 200; approval in 1 to 5 days.
  3. The visitor flies to Doha with the visa printout and passport; immigration stamps the 1-month stay.
  4. Within the first month the visitor takes the Medical Commission test and the sponsor buys the Qatari health insurance; the sponsor extends on Metrash2 for QAR 200 before each expiry.
  5. The visitor leaves before the final expiry (maximum 6 months) or, for a spouse or child, converts to the family residence visa where the sponsor qualifies.

What happens during the stay?

Visitors live with the sponsor, may travel within Qatar and leave and re-enter only if the visa is multiple entry (single entry is the default), and may not take any employment. Parents on long stays register with a health centre using the insurance, and children can attend short courses. The sponsor is responsible for the visitor's conduct and departure, and overstays are fined QAR 200 a day against the visitor at departure, with the sponsor's future requests affected. Families settling permanently move the spouse and children to the residence visa, and Indian residents in the Gulf often compare the Qatar rules with the UAE's in the UAE family residence visa guide.

Why are Qatar family visit visas refused, and what fixes each reason?

Sponsor's profession not eligible. Labourer or driver on the QID. Only the employer can change the profession; otherwise the relative uses the visa-free entry for up to 60 days.

Salary below the threshold. Under about QAR 5,000 on the Wage Protection record. Wait for a raise or use the visa-free route.

Relationship not proven. Certificate missing, unattested or untranslated. Attest and translate before applying.

Medical not done before extension. Extension refused on Metrash2. Complete the Medical Commission test in the first month.

Previous overstay. Visitor fined on an earlier visit. Clear the fine; repeat overstays bring bans.
