Thailand Non-immigrant O family visa for Indian spouses, children and parents
Family members of a foreigner working or studying in Thailand, and spouses of Thai nationals, apply for a Non-immigrant O visa on thaievisa.go.th: INR 7,000 for a single entry giving 90 days, extended yearly in Thailand for THB 1,900. Dependants of a work-permit holder extend with the main applicant; spouses of Thai citizens extend on their own by showing THB 400,000 in a Thai bank for two months or THB 40,000 of monthly income. Parents aged 50 or over can also use the Non-O (or the one-year multiple-entry O-A at INR 13,500) for retirement with THB 800,000 in the bank.

Thailand non-immigrant o visa: quick answers
- Who qualifies for a Non-O family visa?
- The legal spouse and children under 20 of a Non-B or Non-ED holder; spouses, children and parents of Thai nationals; parents of a child studying at a Thai school (one guardian); and retirees aged 50 or more. Marriage and birth certificates issued in India must be apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs (India joined the Apostille Convention) and translated into Thai for extensions, and Thai-national sponsors must show their house registration and ID card.
- What does it cost?
- INR 7,000 per person for the single-entry Non-O visa, INR 13,500 for the one-year multiple-entry O or O-A. In Thailand, each one-year extension costs THB 1,900, a re-entry permit THB 1,000 or THB 3,800, and registering an Indian marriage at a district office is free apart from translation and certification of about THB 2,000.
- How long does it take from India?
- About 10 working days for the e-Visa once the sponsor's documents are ready. Dependants usually apply together with or a few weeks after the main applicant; the first extension is filed in Thailand before day 90 and takes one visit, or up to 30 days under consideration for marriage cases.

Who qualifies, and what the sponsor shows
Three groups use the Non-O. Dependants of a foreign worker or student show the sponsor's passport, visa, work permit or enrolment letter and the apostilled marriage or birth certificate; their extension is granted for the same period as the sponsor's and ends when the sponsor's status ends. Spouses and children of Thai nationals show the Thai partner's ID card and house registration, the registered marriage certificate (an Indian marriage must be registered at a Thai district office or legalised through the Thai embassy to count) and, at extension, THB 400,000 held for two months before filing or a monthly income of THB 40,000 with a letter from the Indian embassy.
Parents aged 50 or over apply for a Non-O (retirement) with THB 800,000 in a Thai account for two months before the extension, or THB 65,000 a month of pension or income, and are extended yearly; the one-year multiple-entry O-A at INR 13,500 is issued directly from India with the same funds plus a police certificate, medical certificate and health insurance of THB 3 million cover. A parent accompanying a child at a Thai international school may hold a guardian Non-O without a funds test beyond the school fees.
None of these visas allows work. A spouse of a Thai national can apply for a work permit with the marriage as the basis and lighter capital rules for the employer (THB 1 million and two Thai staff); dependants of foreign workers need their own Non-B and employer.

How the application runs, step by step
- 1
Apostille and translate the certificates
Marriage and birth certificates apostilled by the MEA; Thai translations certified for the extension stage.
- 2
Collect the sponsor's documents
Worker: passport, visa, work permit, salary proof. Thai spouse: ID card, house registration, marriage registration. Retiree: bank letter and statements.
- 3
Apply on thaievisa.go.th
Non-immigrant O for each dependant; pay INR 7,000 (or INR 13,500 multiple); about 10 working days.
- 4
Enter and submit the TDAC
90 days stamped on arrival; open a Thai bank account early if funds must be seasoned.
- 5
Extend yearly at the Immigration Bureau
TM.7, photos, the sponsor's documents and THB 1,900; marriage cases may include a home visit and photos together.
Timeline for an Indian family
| Stage | Typical time | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Apostille and translation | 1 to 2 weeks | MEA apostille in India; Thai translation later |
| e-Visa | About 10 working days | Embassy or consulate decides |
| Entry | Within 3 months of issue | 90 days stamped |
| Funds seasoning (Thai marriage or retirement) | 2 months | THB 400,000 or THB 800,000 in a Thai bank |
| First extension | 1 visit; marriage cases up to 30 days | Before day 90 |
Dependants of workers should wait for the work permit before filing their first extension, because the extension is granted for the same period as the sponsor's. A dependant who arrives on the 30-day exemption can change to Non-O inside Thailand for THB 2,000 if 15 days remain.
After arrival: schooling, work and permanent residence
Children may attend Thai public schools, international schools (THB 300,000 to 900,000 a year) or Indian-curriculum schools in Bangkok; the ED visa is not needed while they are on a dependant Non-O. Dependants report their address every 90 days and need a re-entry permit before leaving, like the main applicant.
Spouses of Thai nationals who have held yearly extensions for three years and earn THB 30,000 a month can apply for permanent residence in the December quota; spouses of foreign workers do not have an independent route. Vistolane's partner tracks the sponsor's and dependants' extension dates together so a lapse on one does not cancel the other.

Why applications on this route get refused, and the fix
Unregistered marriage
An Indian religious marriage without a certificate, or a certificate without apostille.
The fix. Register the marriage in India, apostille it and have it translated; register at a Thai district office for extensions.
Funds not seasoned
THB 400,000 or THB 800,000 deposited less than two months before the extension.
The fix. Transfer early and keep the bank letter and passbook updated on the day of filing.
Sponsor's status lapsed
The worker's permit ended or the student left the course.
The fix. Dependant extensions follow the sponsor; switch the sponsor's status first.
Income letter not accepted
Monthly income claimed without the embassy affidavit or 12 months of transfers into a Thai account.
The fix. Use the bank deposit method or obtain the Indian embassy's income certification.
Working on a dependant visa
A spouse working without a permit.
The fix. Spouses of Thais can apply for a permit; dependants of foreigners need their own Non-B.
